These cookies were designed using this business card logo. I outlined the drawing on the cookies with an edible ink marker and then went over it with icing. The quote above the mouse's head says "What goes around, comes around" and the mouse is using a little man as the computer mouse. Cute!
Of course, if I had an edible ink printer I'd be able to get a lot more detail on the cookies but doing it by hand is so much more fun!

I'm currently reading the last of the Twilight series and I'm trying to go slow because I really don't want it to end! So when I was asked to make these Twilight themed cookies for a birthday, I knew it would be a fun project.

While I was decorating these cookies, I noticed that the late afternoon sunlight was reflecting off of the tiny sugar crystals in the icing so that they were almost sparkling.

...And the same cookies all ready for their big trip to a wedding in Australia.

Birthday Bouquet

It's the third cloudy day in a row so I'm posting some bright colors again. I don't mind so much when the weather is gloomy because it makes me feel better about staying inside all day to work!

It's been a few days since I've blogged and I'm glad to have a few moments to sit down and post some cookie pictures!
It's the second cloudy day in a row in Chicago so I thought these bright yellow Brush Embroidery Cookies would brighten things up around here.

I never would have thought to do owl cookies on my own but one of my lovely customers requested these. This white owl was for a sample and we ended up changing it to a barn owl on the final order, which was just as cute.

Kinda Sorta Homemade

We came back from the farm last weekend with a ton of apples so I had to find a use for them. I came up with the idea of this apple cream cheese coffee cake.

I found a coffee cake mix by Aunt Jemima that worked well for this recipe. It comes with its own baking tray but it was very small so I used an 8x8 dish instead so that I could fit in all of the extra ingredients. I used 3 medium sized apples, sliced and tossed in cinnamon; 1 8 oz package of cream cheese, softened; 1/3 cup of sugar; and 1 egg (in addition to the eggs used in the coffee cake recipe).
I followed the instructions for the coffee cake and poured the batter into the greased 8x8 dish(keep the crumb topping aside for now). Then I mixed the softened cream cheese with the sugar until it was smooth and added the egg. When the egg was completely incorporated, I spooned the cream cheese over the coffee cake batter and swirled it around with a butter knife (you can sort of see the different layers of cake and cream cheese in this side view). I spread the apples out over the top of the cream cheese and cake and then sprinkled on the crumb topping (from the box of the coffee cake mix). The directions on the box said to bake the coffee cake at 375 for about 25 minutes but since my version was thicker it took about 40 minutes.

My resident taste tester loved this recipe as did I. If anyone decides to make it, let me know how it turns out!

Thank you so much to everyone for all of the wonderful birthday wishes! You're all so sweet :)

Birthday Blog

I bought this big flower hair clip from bellababystudio on Etsy so I could wear it out on my birthday. The idea that it would go perfectly with my outfit came to me at the last minute and she was kind enough to send it out by Express Mail the next day so that it would arrive on time.

An e-card from my mom...

Labor Day Weekend

It's almost fall in Wisconsin! I'm finally back to a normal routine after my long weekend on the farm. It's going to be a busy week playing catch up on cookie orders!

The newest member of the Wisconsin farmhouse family... a barn kitten turned house cat.

While we're on the topic of fall, my Autumn Leaves Cookies made it on the front page of Etsy this morning! Hooray!

These green cameos and yellow cookies were from two different orders but I put them together for a photo shoot because I hardly ever use such bright colors.

Have a great weekend!

I made these monogrammed cookies for a customer who is having a birthday party in the theme of a certain well known French patisserie. I had a lot of fun designing these cookies. There are only two here since they were just samples but I'm really excited about making a full order.
