Painting With Luster Dust On Brush Embroidered Flowers (video)

A tutorial on painting brush embroidered flowers using luster dust.

When painting brush embroidery with gold luster dust, make sure to first pipe your flowers in the same color icing as the base coat. Let it dry for an hour or two before applying the gold.

Music: Bach Brandenburg Concerto 6 (1st movement)

  1. will this work with wilton's pearl dust? I have some silver I'd llike to try it with.
Also, What's the consistency like of the luster dust/alcohol mixture? When I've tried to doing a similar "painting" idea, it ended up clumpy and weird!

    1. Hi Sarah! This method works with Wilton's pearl dust also. The consistency is pretty thin. Try adding a little more liquid and see if that helps. Thanks for your comment!

  8. Your site is absolutely amazing! I found you from a backlink from Lizy B. I actually teach in the city of Poughkeepsie. Is your shop nearby? I graduated from Hamilton College so I'm familiar with Ithica as well. Small world.

    1. Hi Jenny! Wow, it is a small world! I have a little bakeshop in Saugerties, but it's not a retail space. There's not all that much to see in here, but feel free to stop by and say hello if you're ever in the area!

  10. I love watching you make works of art. Just beautiful. About how much time do you think you take to decorate each cookie? (From the icing, to the brush strokes and then the gold paint.)
